Morris Shendelman, 86, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Thursday, January 6, 2005 at the Royal Oaks Care Center in Kewanee, Illinois.
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 10, 2005 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross.
Mr. Shendelman was born October 12, 1918 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Max & Bertha (Silverberg) Shendelman. He was united in marriage to Yetta Silverberg in Brooklyn, New York on May 22, 1948. She preceded him in death on April 27, 1985.
He was employed in small arms repair at the Rock Island Arsenal for 27 years and in earlier years, had been employed at the Frankfort Arsenal in New Jersey.
During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army air offensive in Normandy, France, the Ardennes and Central Europe. Upon his honorable discharge in 1945, he received the Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge, the American Defense Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with 6 Bronze Battle Stars.
He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed playing golf and model railroading.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons, Marc Shendelman of Kewanee, Illinois and Steve Shendelman of Irvine, California; and five grandchildren.
