Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Wednesday. Mossy was born September 23, 1913, in Frazee, Minnesota, the daughter of Ira & Ethel Suiter-Roller. She grew up in LeClaire, Iowa, where she and her brothers and sisters played in the creek and ran through the woods on land that was part of the family’s original homestead. On March 9, 1944, she was united in marriage to Karl J. Emendorfer in Davenport. He preceded her in death on September 6, 1965.
During World War II, she worked in an airplane factory in Chicago as a "Rosie the Riveter.” Mossy unselfishly devoted her life to her family and she always found time to listen to and play with children. Her appreciation for nature and her love of good books has had a lasting influence on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In her spare time, she loved to read and she was an accomplished crossword puzzle expert. She will be greatly missed both by her family and by her friends at Riverview Manor.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda & Robert Hartwigsen, Bettendorf and Dr. Fay & Jeff Maas, Duluth, Minnesota; her grandchildren. Jack & Dana Hartwigsen and Jeff & Audra Hartwigsen; her great-grandchildren, Maia, Alea, Kyle, & Sophia; her sisters, Virginia Vestal, Bruce, Wisconsin, and Ethel Collard, Pleasant Hill, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Karl J. Emendorfer, Jr., her sisters, Ruth Gimm, Irene Van Steenberg, and Elsie Dietrich; and her brothers, William Roller and Ross Roller.
