Myrna Eleanor (Mensing) Magoon, 87, of Bettendorf, Iowa, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, August 5, 2012 after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bettendorf where she was a member.  Pastor Keith Piotter will be officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the church.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday at Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids prior to interment.  Pastor David Miller will be officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran Church.

Myrna was born August 21, 1924 in Lowden, Iowa, the daughter of Dietrick & Eleanora (Kruckenberg) Mensing.  She was baptized on September 14, 1924 and confirmed on April 10, 1938 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden.

On February 4, 1953, she was united in marriage to J. Preston Magoon in Lowden.  He preceded her in death on September 26, 1991.

Myrna was employed by Rockwell Collins and the Jefferson High School Cafeteria for 18 years.  She was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts and taught Sunday school for 5 years at Trinity in Lowden.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids for 55 years and had also sung in choirs for over 30 years.  Her memberships included Good Samaritans, Dorcus Society, 2 Bible studies, all church singles and the Trinity Red Hatters.

Those left to honor her memory include her sons, Craig Magoon of Villa Grande, California and Steven Magoon of Bettendorf;  her granddaughters, Rachel Magoon of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Kelli Magoon of Bettendorf;  her sisters, Luanna Nelson of Costa Mesa, California and Gladys (William) Mundt of Tempe, Arizona; her sister-in-law, Norma Magoon of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Myrna was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Michael Magoon on June 19, 1986; her two sisters who were stillborn on January 17, 1918 and January 17, 1930; and her brother, Victor Mensing on March 21, 2012.
