Nancy Hartzell

Nancy Hartzell, 89, a resident of Legacy Gardens Memory Care in Iowa City, Iowa, formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa, died on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Legacy Gardens.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.  Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park.  Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2022 at the funeral home.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Handicapped Development Center of Davenport, Essence of Life Hospice of Amana, Iowa, or the Alzheimer's Association.

Nancy was born in Davenport, Iowa on October 24, 1932, the daughter of George and Paula (Zabel) Powell.  On July 19, 1952, she married Clark “Dutch” Hartzell in Davenport.  He preceded her in death on September 26, 2007.

Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who also enjoyed time spent with her friends.  In addition, she loved to travel far and wide, play a challenging game of bridge, and share a round of golf with her daughter, Peggy.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Susan (Charles) Storey of Elgin, Illinois, Margaret “Peggy” Hartzell of Iowa City, and Linda Hartzell of Davenport; her son, Michael (Kathy Krafka) Hartzell of Navarre, Florida; her grandchildren, Polly, David (Connie) and Michael (Katie) Storey, and Connor and Kyle Hartzell; her great-grandchildren, Clark, Lorelei, Grant and Isabelle Storey; her brother-in-law, Jim Hartzell of Moline; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy was preceded in death by her sisters, Carolyn Schell and Georgia Bruggemeyer.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the teams at Legacy Senior Living and Essence of Life Hospice for their very compassionate care during Nancy's final journey through her life.
