Nancy Lou (Kimmel) Ward, 68, died Monday, July 13, 2015 at her home in Davenport, Iowa.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, July 17, 2015 at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Davenport. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice, St. John’s United Methodist Church or the Scott County Humane Society.
She was born on October 6, 1946, in Davenport to J. Byron and Rosemary (Iossi) Kimmel. Graduating from Davenport Central High School in 1964, she went on to earn a degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1968.
On June 22, 1968, Nancy married Robert J. S. Ward. She taught school at Washington Elementary from 1968 to 1969 before moving to Bremerhaven, West Germany where Bob was serving in the U.S. Navy. Then the adventure began. She and Bob visited numerous countries and she began her lifelong love of cooking and entertaining.
Returning to Davenport in 1972, Nancy worked with Dr. Steve Cooper until they retired in 2003. She helped in Dr. Bruce Thorburn’s office and most recently filled in at Oakdale Memorial Garden’s office.
Nancy loved family, a good motorcycle ride, and reading a good book on their boat with a gin and tonic nearby. Retirement found her at estate sales and walking the mall with friends. Her children were pet house bunnies: Lucy, Blanca and Scooter.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Bob; sisters, Dee (Jenny Kennedy) Kimmel, and Marilyn (Allen) Weidner; three nieces; one nephew; and their families.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents.
Nancy’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to their kind and caring neighbors: John & Marilyn, Ric & Susan, and Kathleen; and would also like to thank Genesis Hospice for their care given to Nancy.
