Nathaniel C. “Nate” Johnson, 67, a resident of Davenport, Iowa passed away on Monday, November 08, 2010 at his home surrounded by his beloved family.

His funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 12, 2010 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.

He was born April 5, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of John & Marion Louise (Rusan) Johnson.

Nate was employed as a machine operator at the former Caterpillar Tractor Company of Bettendorf and at the former Blackhawk Foundry. In earlier years, he was employed as a cook.

Among the things he enjoyed were bowling, hard work, spending time out-of-doors and the companionship of his family.

Prior to Nate’s illness, he was a member of the Westside Assembly of God Church of Davenport.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Jackie S. Banks-Johnson; his daughters, Tina Johnson-Vera of Harker Heights, Texas, Lucille Johnson & her fiancé, James of Peoria, Illinois; Millie (Donnie) Heyvaert of Davenport and Waynette (K.K. Luanglath) Johnson of Brandon, Florida; his sons, Nathaniel C. (Boyaphanh) Johnson II of Des Moines, Iowa, Byron Johnson of Davenport and Michael (Kristy) Gomez of Davenport; twenty-one grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; his sister, Gladys Mildred (Thomas) Humburd Sr. of Donnelson, Iowa; his brothers, Dr. John Johnson of Blue Grass, Iowa, Archie (Beverly) Johnson of Davenport, Rev. Henry Johnson of Davenport and Kenneth (Irma) Johnson of Davenport; and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

Nate was preceded in death by his daughter, Twonia Lynn Lester Johnson; his mother, Marion Norwood; his step-father, Clifford Norwood; his father, John Johnson; and his brothers, Byron R. Johnson and Stanley E. Johnson.
