Neil B. Kastler, 76, of Davenport, died Monday, March 13, 2006 at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Thursday, March 16, 2006 at First Baptist Church, Bettendorf. Visitation will be one hour before the services on Thursday. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or the Salvation Army. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Neil was born July 21, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Randolph C. & Ella Mae (Peas) Kastler. Neil was united in marriage to Joyce F. Schneckloth on June 12, 1955 in Nashua, Iowa.
Neil served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Alaska assisting in land surveying.
Neil received his Bachelor’s Degree from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and his Master’s Degree from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa.
He retired in 1990 after 35 years of employment with the Defense Mapping Agency, Aerospace Center in St. Louis, Missouri where he did geodesic surveys involved with mapmaking.
Neil had several interests and hobbies not limited to hiking, cave exploring and rock hunting. He also enjoyed astronomy and was skilled in recognizing the natural environment around him. Additionally, he was active in his church choir, enjoyed playing the piano, and singing.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Joyce; his daughter and son-in-law, Terri & Kurt Wesseling III, of Hermon, Maine; his son David, of Davenport, and Michael and his wife, Jaimee, of Wentzville, Missouri; three grandchildren; one step-grandchild; his sister, Kay Kastler, of Monroe, Connecticut; his brother, Kent Kastler, of Stratford, Iowa; and his mother-in-law, Florence Bachman, of Clarence, Iowa.
Neil was preceded in death by his parents; and his sons, Eric & Douglas.
