Netha M. Deere, 93, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Friday, May 27, 2016 at the Aledo Health Care Center in Aledo, Illinois. Netha lived across from the old Bettendorf high school for 60 years while caring for her family.
Private graveside services were held at the Rock Island National Cemetery and memorials may be directed to Bettendorf Christian Church where she attended. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf assisted the family with arrangements.
Netha was born January 10, 1923 in Clarion, Iowa, the daughter of Joe & Clara (Serfoos) Ray. She was united in marriage to John F. "Jack" Deere Sr. on August 2, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1985.
Netha enjoyed the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading her Bible, cooking, going to garage sales and watching sports events.
Those left to honor her memory include her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert & Jackie Deere of Bettendorf and John “Jack” Jr. & Terri Deere of Davenport; her grandchildren, Mark (Mindy) Deere, Jeff Deere, Stefanie (Dave) Otto, Ann (Dave) Moore and T.J. (Gina) Deere; 18 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Jean Deere; her nieces, Sandra Edwards-Palmer and Trudy Smith; and her nephews, Dean Smith, Jeff Smith, Jon Deere and Dennis Deere.
In addition to her husband, Jack, Netha was preceded in death by her parents; her granddaughter, Wendy Schmertmann; her sister, Arline Smith-Palmer; her brothers, Bud and Wayne Smith; her brothers-in-law, Robert and Gene Deere; her sister-in-law Mary Deere, and her nephew, Joe Deere.
