Norma A. Geertz, 93, a former resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Amber Ridge Assisted Living in Moline, Illinois.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 23, 2015 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Bettendorf. The family will greet friends from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Friday at the church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer ’s Disease Foundation, the Bettendorf Food Pantry or to a favorite charity. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
She was born on March 21, 1921 in Gladstone, Michigan, the daughter of Alexander & Bertha (Newman) Bovin. On April 14, 1951, she was united in marriage to Floyd J. “Bob” Geertz in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2002.
In earlier years, Norma worked as a beautician at the former Petersen-Harned-Von Maur Beauty Shop in Davenport.
She & Bob were active members of Asbury United Methodist Church and devoted countless hours as volunteers for the Bettendorf Food Pantry. In addition, she volunteered at the Thrift Center and was active in the United Methodist Women.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Tamara Ann (Bill Pisarra) Geertz of Geneseo, Illinois; and many beloved friends including Julie Heilman of Bettendorf and Mary Chrysler of Bettendorf.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Chrysler; her brother, Wallace A Bovin and her nephew, Dale Chrysler Jr.
