Norman J. Leibold, 67, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
His funeral service will be held at 11:30 A.M. Friday, August 7, 2009 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial with military honors will be take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society.
Norman was born May 8, 1942 in Davenport, the son of Herman & Lillian (VanZile) Leibold. On July 2, 1977, he was united in marriage to Rosemary Sedore-Hancock in Davenport. She preceded him in death on October 17, 2007.
He was employed as a machine operator for French & Hecht of Davenport for 33 years.
During the Viet Nam Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a Specialist 5th Class in 1968.
His memberships included the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post of Davenport.
Norman enjoyed watching NASCAR, going fishing, boating on the river, playing cards with his many friends and as an avid driver, loved to go on trips. Norm was also a faithful companion of his beloved canine family members, Whiskers & Princess.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Kimberly; his son, Roger Leibold of Park View, Iowa; his step-sons, Mike (Micki) Hancock of East Moline, Illinois, Marty (Theresa) Hancock of Princeton, Iowa and Matt (Pattie) Hancock of Clarksville, Tennessee; twelve grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; his sisters, Doris (Mike) Reisinger of Springfield, Illinois and Martha (Dr. Fred) Dehn of Sacramento, California; his brother, Ralph (Patti) Leibold in Florida; and his sisters-in-law, Karen Guffey and Julie Leibold, both of Davenport.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth Leibold and Curtis Leibold; and his parents.
