Norris Dean Shanks, 68, of Bettendorf, died Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services on Tuesday evening. Casual dress is requested. Memorials may be made to the Norris Shanks Memorial Fund.
Born on May 8, 1944 in Norfolk, NE, he was the son of Wayne and Verle (McFarland) Shanks. On June 24, 1967 in Geneseo, IL, he married Margaret DePauw.
Norris worked for Blackhawk Foundry, Davenport Springs, King’s Material and for Ralston-Purina as a shipping clerk for 25 years. He enjoyed stock car racing, remodeling cars and fishing. Norris cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Margaret; two daughters, Melanie (Steve) King of Jacksonville, FL and Jenny (Dave) Terronez of Bettendorf; six grandchildren, Kaleb King, Izaak King, Ronin King, Olivia Terronez, Payton Terronez and Joe Terronez; and one sister, Carol Luke of Ankeny.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Fredrick Wayne Shanks; one granddaughter, Alice King; one brother, Gary Shanks.
