Olen Chandler

Olen Forest Chandler, 93, a resident of Bettendorf, formerly of Bloomfield, IA, died Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Bettendorf Health Care Center in Bettendorf.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Oakdale Memorials Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21 st at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Olen was born on February 13, 1921 in Bloomfield, the son of Alva O. and Goldie May (Saner) Chandler. He married Hazel Yates on October 3, 1939 in Bloomfield.
Olen and Hazel raised their children on a small farm in Bloomfield. Olen loved the outdoors, farming, road construction and spending time with his family. He enjoyed a good joke and tried to be ornery whenever he got the chance. Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 74 years, Hazel; sons, Donald Chandler of Davenport and Doran (Bernadette) Chandler of Bettendorf; daughter, Shirley Martin of Bettendorf; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Dennis Martin and daughter-in-law, Joan Chandler.
