Ona J. Archibald

Ona Jane Archibald, 72, of Davenport, died Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 7, 2009 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery, Wapello, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Ona was born July 16, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. George Fred & Veta (Gates) Brewer. She was united in marriage to William Alan Archibald on July 8, 1956 in Davenport.
Ona was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family. She was a homemaker while her children were small, and then worked for the Davenport School District and the Bethany Home. Painting was one of her favorite hobbies and she had a green thumb and loved to maintain her garden of flowers and plants. She also enjoyed ceramics and crafts.
Ona was an avid reader who enjoyed visiting with people and always had a joke or good story to tell. The was nothing she enjoyed more than spending a few days at her cabin on Lake Odessa fishing with one or more of her grandchildren. She was a member of the Quad-City Cruisers for a number of years and had owned a Model T.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Bill; her daughter, Cheryl Lopez, of Bettendorf; her son, David Archibald, of Davenport; and her beloved grandchildren, Chad, Dan and Ashlee Lopez and Damian and Stacey Archibald.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George & Veta; her brother, George F. Brewer, Jr.; and her daughter-in-law, Teresa (Moorman) Archibald. May they rest in peace.
