Oral Wayne "Duke" Simms

Oral Wayne “Duke” Simms, 70, a former resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at Meadow Lawn Nursing Center in Davenport, Iowa.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf where he was a member. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born April 25, 1937 in Memphis, Missouri, the son of Roy Edward and Elizabeth (Beard) Simms. On August 25, 1967, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Rose Arguello in Rock Island, Illinois. She preceded him in death on October 3, 2003.
Wayne was employed in the Shipping Department of the Alcoa Company for over 25 years, retiring several years ago.
He was a former member of the Aluminum, Brick & Glassworkers Union Local 105 and the Alcoa Retirees Club.
In earlier years, he enjoyed going fishing and loved to hunt as well. The Iowa Hawkeyes were also a favorite.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Susan (Marc) Brandt of Eldridge, Iowa and Malissa Simms of Bettendorf; his son, Robert (Diannia) Simms of Bettendorf; his grandchildren, Hannah and Kraig; his sister, Lola Jean (J.D.) Bentley in Missouri; his brother, Donald (Fran) Simms of Davenport; and several beloved sisters-in-law who provided much love, help & support during the final years of his life.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Marrquardt and his brother, Warren Simms during World War II.
