Otto Wendhausen Jr.

Otto Wendhausen, Jr., 87, of LeClaire, Iowa died on June 6, 2023 at Genesis Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 from 12:00 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf, followed by a committal service at Davenport Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice, Scott County 4-H, or Genesis Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

Otto was born near LeClaire (Argo), Iowa on November 14, 1935, the son of Otto Sr. and Martha (Hamann) Wendhausen. He married Patricia Barnard and they farmed in rural LeClaire for decades before retiring in 2006. He proudly served with the United States Army.

Family, farming, and friends brought Otto great joy in life.  He was a former member of various organizations such as Farm Bureau, Pork Producers, Corn Producers, Soybean Association, and ASCS committee of LeClaire Township. He committed 25 years as a Supervisor of the Swine Department at the Great Mississippi Valley Fair and was a past leader of the LeClaire Boys 4-H Club. Additionally, he had served as an agent with American Mutual Insurance Association.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife Pat, LeClaire, daughters Janelle (Guy) Ewoldt, Delmar, Iowa and Dana (Ken) Kobold, Arvada, Colorado; two grandsons Austin and Jordan (Emily) Ewoldt, both of Delmar, Iowa; sisters Ruth Heuer, Princeton, Iowa, Joann Boysen, Surprise, Arizona, Truly Marten, Davenport, Iowa, Marsha Ketelsen, Anamosa, Iowa, brother Merle (Janet) Wendhausen, LeClaire, Iowa, and numerous extended family members.

Otto was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Orpha Lively and Iva Auliff.
