Ova L. Lucas, 72, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Monday, September 11, 2017, unexpectedly in Bettendorf.
His visitation will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2017, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. A Celebration of Ova’s Life will be held at the Bettendorf Community Center on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Scott County, 2802 W. Central Park Ave, Davenport, Iowa 52804, or to the Lucas Scholarship c/o Culver-Stockton College, 1 College Hill, Canton, Missouri 63435.
Ova was born December 21, 1944, in Breckenridge County, Kentucky, a son of Willard & Marguerite (Skeeters) Lucas. He was employed with Alcoa, Riverdale Works for 43 years, retiring as a Millwright. A fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes, Ova also enjoyed fishing, golfing, breakfast with his friends, and the company of his beloved dogs.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons, Todd L. Lucas, Bozeman, Montana, retired U.S. Army officer, and his wife, Jessie; and Tory L. Lucas, Lynchburg, Virginia, U.S. Air Force veteran and law professor at Liberty University, and his wife, Megan; his grandson, Todd Michael Lucas; his sisters, Margaret, Ruby, and Wanda; his brothers, Willard, Kenneth, Ralph, Rupert, Frankie, and Eugene; and Ova’s companion, Gail Atkinson, of Bettendorf.
Ova was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Rita.
