Patsy Mart

Patsy L. Mart, 84, of Bettendorf passed away on Monday, August 26, 2019 at her residence.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home.  Memorials may be directed to The University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

Patsy was born on August 17, 1935 in Milo, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Eva (Johns) Howe.  Following high school graduation, she worked at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines.   In 1955, she married Albert D. Mart in Milo.   She then worked at Iowa State University while helping her husband finish his degree.  After Al completed his degree, the young family relocated to eastern Iowa.  Patsy then studied and completed her degree in nursing while raising seven children.  Patsy worked in obstetrics at the former Davenport Osteopathic Hospital for many years prior to working at the Iowa Masonic Home where she retired after almost 30 years of service.  She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, a volunteer at the DAV Thrift Store, attended the Community Bible Study Group, was a faithful blood donor, and a member of Ultimate Fitness where she had made many friendships.  Patsy was a true matriarch and a mom to many.  She adored her grandchildren and spending time with her family.  She was always on the “go”, whether traveling across Iowa to visit family or running around town with her best friend, Rheta.

She is survived by her children, Kellene (Mark) Mart of Port Hadlock, Washington, Kae Mart of Ames, Iowa, Jeanne Mart of Fraser, Colorado, Mollie (Stephen) Willis of Iowa City, Eric (Christa) Mart of Davenport, and David (Karri) Mart of Bettendorf. She had nine grandchildren, Kylie (Ryan) Morency, Anthony, Alexandria, Simone, Jaryn, Ania, and Eva Willis, Lynnea and Patrick Mart; brothers, Robert (Irene) Howe of Newton, Iowa, Gene (Sharon) Howe of Milo; brother-in-law, Jim Wadle of Bettendorf; special nieces, MiChelle Carl, Rachelle Pultrone, Rhonda Rowden; several other nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Rheta Allen of Davenport.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; her beloved daughter, Ann Mart; and her sister, Shirley Wadle.
