Bettendorf

Paul G. Starr, 72, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022 at his home after a brief illness.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf where he was a long-time member.  The family will greet friends from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the  church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lourdes Cub Scout Troop 199, the Boy Scout Troop 199, or any veterans organizations of your choice.  McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois, the second of seven children to Arthur and Dorothy (Thomson) Starr.  The family moved to Rock Falls, Illinois when Paul was very young.  He later moved to the Quad-Cities to attend St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa where he earned a bachelor’s degree in art.

On November 24, 1990, he was united in marriage to Trudy Arp at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Paul retired in 2009 from John Deere Harvester of Moline, Illinois in the Purchasing Department after a 36-year career with the company.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the CEW at the church.  He loved fishing, boating, coaching soccer, and football and was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears.  Paul was an active leader of the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for many years and led them on many camping adventures.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Trudy; his children, Elizabeth Marie Starr of Iowa City, Iowa, Samuel Paul Starr of Buena Vista, Colorado, John Paul Starr of Bettendorf and Joseph Michael Starr (Kat Kaye) of Platteville, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Samuel, Levi and Emily Belle; his sisters, Gail (Kerry) Stout of LeClaire, Iowa and Donna (John) Karr of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; and his brothers, James (Mary) Starr of Rock Falls, Thomas (Cindy) Starr of Rock Falls, Larry (Jane) Starr of Maryville, Tennessee and Richard Starr.

His parents preceded him in death.
