Pauline A. Moench, 92, of LeClaire, Iowa, died Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Manor Care, Utica Ridge in Davenport, Iowa.
Per Pauline’s wishes, her body has been donated to the University of Iowa and burial will take place at a later date at Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church in LeClaire where she was a longtime member. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to Birthright or to Our Lady of the River Catholic Church.
Pauline was born on December 29, 1922 in Rich Fountain, Missouri, the daughter of Joseph & Helen (Bexten) Fick. She was united in marriage to Donald Moench on November 23, 1950. He preceded her in death on November 22, 1990. Pauline attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Kansas City, Missouri and was Director of Nursing at Riverview Manor in Pleasant Valley for many years. In addition to Our Lady of the River, her memberships included the Altar and Rosary Society and Church Women’s United.
She also served as a volunteer for Birthright and the Buffalo Bill Museum in LeClaire. Pauline enjoyed reading to the pre-school classes at the Children’s Village at Hoover and she had made quilts for Project Linus, an organization that makes blankets for critically ill children.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary & Brian Cameron of Sherwood, Oregon, Laura Moench of Madison, Wisconsin and Helen & Mel Vogel of Rock Island; her sons and daughters-in-law, Leo Moench of Davenport, George & Laura Moench of LeClaire, Eric & Barb Moench of Omaha, Nebraska, Joe & Kelli Moench of Mt. Enterprise, Texas and Mark & Cynde Moench of San Mateo, California; twenty grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; her sister and brother-in-law, Clare & Bill Huber of Washington, Missouri; and her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Fick of Linn, Missouri and Louise Fick of Rich Fountain.
In addition to her husband, Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Juliana and Margaret; and her brothers, Arthur and Joseph.
