Paul L. Hammill, 83, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Thursday, October 23, 2003 at Manor Care Nursing Center, Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 25, 2003 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation.
He was born December 31, 1919 in Savanna, Illinois, the son of James & Margaret Hammill. On May 30, 1941, he married the former Ferne D. Blackman in LeClaire, Iowa.
Paul was a plasterer with Armstrong Plastering and later was a self-employed painter. In addition, he managed the Park View Trailer City in Bettendorf for many years.
He served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the European Theater and was recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict. Following the war, he was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
In his spare time, he enjoyed going fishing and loved to play basketball. In earlier years, he & his wife spent many hours as volunteers at the Handicapped Development Center in Davenport.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Ferne; his daughter, Diane Hammill of Bettendorf; and several nieces & nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Jim, Tom & Leo.
