Peggy Ellen Heppler, 84, of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at her home.
Private family services will be held at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers’ Association or the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Fort Branch, Indiana where several of her family members are buried.
She was born in Fort Branch, Indiana on September 19, 1937, the daughter of Newman and Madeline “Peggy” (Smith) Gwaltney. On August 20, 1955, she married Harry Verwayne Heppler in Fort Branch. He preceded her in death on January 18, 2021.
In earlier years, Peggy worked in the office of the former Petersen-Harned Von Maur Store and at St. Ambrose University, both in Davenport.
Her memberships included Asbury United Methodist Church of Bettendorf and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Peggy took great pride in her home, keeping it immaculate and decorating with a Victorian flavor and style. She loved to bake, enjoyed sewing and looked forward to trips to visit relatives including the Gwaltney Family Reunion. Being a “Gran” was the highlight of her later years.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Donna (Ed) Burhop of Oak Creek, Wisconsin and Karen "Kara" (Dan) Schurr of LeClaire, Iowa; her son, Steven (I Mei) Heppler of Boise, Idaho; her grandchildren, Seth Heppler of Boise, Nick (Regina Pauly) Schurr of New York, New York, Sammi (Jon) Brueggen of LeClaire, Madeline Ognenoff of Oak Creek, Allison Schurr of Kansas City, Missouri, Tim Heppler of Boise and Doug Heppler of Boise; her great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Ryker and Myla Brueggen; and her loving caregivers, Anna, Katie and Lauren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Gwaltney.
