Phyllis Jean Simmons, 64 a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa passed away at her home on Sunday, November 20 th surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. The family will greet friends from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

She was born January 26, 1947 in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Donald & Ida (Ireland) LaMaack. Phyllis married Neil A. Simmons on June 16, 1978 in Rock Island, Illinois.

She was previously employed by Port of Figurines in Bettendorf and was a bookkeeper with Simmons Business Service for more than thirty years. Phyllis was a past-president of DOES Drove #217 of Davenport and was a former member of the Northwest Davenport Turners Society Auxiliary. She loved cooking, crafts, camping, fishing & beating her husband at Scrabble.

Survivors include her loving husband & soul-mate of 33 years, Neil Simmons; her son, Shawn (Kandi) Dierickx & grandsons, A.J. & Nathan, all of Jacksonville, Florida; her son, Shannon (Kristi) Dierickx & grandson, Kamen, all of Lakeland, Florida; her sister, Wendy (Dan) McGarvey & niece, McKenna, all of Bettendorf; her nephew, Joshua (Kristin) LaMaack & grandnephew, Kaelen, all of Bettendorf.

Other survivors include sisters, Diane Covington of Bennett, Iowa and Caryl (Ray) Cole of Durant, Iowa; brothers, Dennis (Martha) LaMaack of Pousbo, Washington and Gary LaMaack of Davenport; sisters-in-law, Sandra (Ed) Arp of Bettendorf and Joanne (Don) Gray of Iowa City; and brothers-in-law, Keith (Teri) Simmons of Colona, Illinois and Kent (Sheila) Simmons of Bettendorf.

Preceding Phyllis in death were her parents, Ida LaMaack and Donald LaMaack; her parents-in-law, Mary and Harold Simmons; her brothers, DeWayne and Garrett; her niece, Angela LaMaack; and her nephews, Billy LaMaack and Chad McGarvey.
