Rachel Pearl Werner, 96, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Wednesday, February 05, 2014 at Manor Care Utica Ridge in Davenport, Iowa.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, February 10, 2014 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf. She will be laid to rest at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
She was born in Ferryville, Wisconsin on August 16, 1917, the daughter of Ray & Estella (Marks) Turner. On October 21, 1946, she was united in marriage to Clayton Werner at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Clayton preceded her in death on May 10, 1999.
Rachel was a devoted homemaker, mom, grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma. She enjoyed ceramics, sewing, watching the butterflies in her yard, camping and attending family reunions.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Estella Mary Sloop of Roswell (Ron), New Mexico, Loma Larson of Bettendorf and Lorna Bloss of Bettendorf; her sons, LeeRoy R. Witcraft (Lynne) of Bettendorf and Dan Witcraft (Jackie) of Davenport; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her granddaughters, Melinda Beeding and Kristine Witcraft.
