Rachel A. Shield

Rachel Ann Kuster Shield, 82, a resident of Rock Island, Illinois died Thursday, October 16, 2003 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 21, 2003 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rock Island where she was a member or to the Rock Island County Humane Society.
She was born May 2, 1921 in Morning Sun, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert & Rhoda (Coon) Bryant. She married Richard Kuster in Kahoka, Missouri on September 8, 1940. She married Rollie H. Shield in Davenport, Iowa on June 18, 1966. He preceded her in death on July 30, 2002.
Rachel was employed by Oscar Mayer & Company of Davenport, retiring in 1973 after 20 years of service.
In addition to the church, she was a member of the Oscar Mayer Retirees and the Rock Island Conservation Club.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters & sons-in-law, Linda & Dean Schneider of Toronto, Iowa, Landa & Tim Duszynski of Gresham, Oregon, Loanna Lea & Gene Mayerhofer of Dixon, Iowa and Lorilee & Fred Blake of Gulf Shores, Alabama; her son & daughter-in-law, Larry & Pam Kuster of Wheatland, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.
