Rachel “Louise” Dunn, 99, a resident of Davenport, Iowa passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2006 at the Davenport Good Samaritan Center where she had been a resident since April 18, 2002.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at Edwards Congregational Church, 3420 Jersey Ridge Rd., Davenport. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Edwards Congregational Church, Genesis Hospice or the Good Samaritan Center. Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
Louise was born in Eldon, Missouri on September 29, 1906, the daughter of Philamon & Elizabeth (Appland) Combs.
She graduated from high school in 1924 and from Eldon Business College in 1925. Following graduation, she worked as a secretary in Kansas City, Missouri where she met her husband, Roy. L. Dunn. They were married on November 25, 1926 in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death in July of 1970.
Louise & Roy moved to Davenport in July of 1944 from LaCrosse, Wisconsin and were active members of Edwards Congregational Church until their deaths.
Louise was initiated into Chapter GW of the P.E.O. Sisterhood on April 12, 1946 where she held all major offices.
She worked on the bookmobile of the Davenport Public Library until her retirement. Louise volunteered many years with the Red Cross Gray Ladies and the American Field Services.
Louise was a gracious, naturally caring & nurturing person who was admired and loved by all who knew her. She was a wonderful cook and reveled in preparing family dinners. A person of few words, she taught her children by the exemplary way she lived her life.
Those left to honor her memory include her sons, David L. Dunn, Ph.D. of Kemah, Texas and Stephen Dunn, M.D. & his wife, Jan of Portland, Oregon and a son-in-law, Bob Pischke of Eldridge, Iowa. She also leaves nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Joy Pischke; five sisters; one brother; and one great-granddaughter.
Louise will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
