Ralph S. Buckley, 97, a resident of Park Vista Retirement Living in East Moline, formerly of rural Blue Grass, died Thursday, November 27, 2014 at his home.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Monday, December 1 st from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans or Heartland Hospice.
Born on December 29, 1916 in DeWitt, Iowa, Ralph was the son of Oliver and Christine (Peterson) Buckley. He married Lorraine Fey. She preceded him in death. On August 12, 2005 he married Alice (Titus) Cattoir.
Ralph served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member the 518th Engineer Battalion and was involved in five invasions during the war.
Ralph was a plumber with the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 25 Union. He also farmed in rural Blue Grass. Ralph was a member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars. He cherished his time spent with family, especially his grandchildren.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Alice; sons, Jim (Janine) Buckley of Buffalo, Chuck (Tanya) Buckley of Davenport and Mike Buckley of Buffalo; daughter, Darla Hamilton of Grinnell, IA; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Darlene Meyer of Bettendorf; step-children, Lanny (Beth) Morrison of Richmond, IL; Peggy (Jay) Woods of Lancaster, PA, Dixie Winter of Moline, Sonja Trowbridge of Rock Island and Wendy (Errol Skinner) Tweeton of Naples, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lorraine; brother, Francis and sister, Anne.
