Ralph J. Wulf, 88, a resident of Eldridge, Iowa died Monday, July 5, 2004 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 9, 2004 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove, Iowa. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Donahue American Legion Post 532. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the church where a prayer vigil service will be held at 7:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Long Grove Volunteer Fire Department, the Long Grove Lions Club, the Donahue American Legion Boy’s State Fund or to St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
He was born May 27, 1916 in Grand Mound, Iowa, the son of Ben & Laura (Schroeder) Wulf. On November 13, 1943, he was united in marriage to Bernice Strobbe in Long Grove.
In 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a medic with the 46th Armored Medical Battalion in Ardennes, Rhineland & Central Europe. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1945 and was awarded the WW II Victory Medal, the American Defense Service Ribbon with Bronze Star, the American Theater Ribbon, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Battle Stars, 2 Overseas Bars and the Good Conduct Medal.
Ralph was a life-long farmer in Long Grove and in addition, was a representative of the Golden Seed Company for over 43 years.
His patriotism and loyalty to his country continued long after his military service. He took great pride in being a long-time member & past-commander of the Larry M. Gronewald American Legion Post 532 of Donahue, a member & past-commander of the Scott County American Legion and a ASCS board member for 9 years. Additional memberships included the Scott County Farm Bureau, the Long Grove Lions Club, the Long Grove Senior Citizens, the Golden Anniversary Club and the Davenport Moose Lodge.
In his spare time, Ralph was an avid bowler, a loyal Cub’s fan and loved to play cards with his many friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Bernice; his daughters & sons-in-law, Pat & Randy Siemsen of Victoria, Minnesota, Barbara McFate of Bettendorf and Bonnie & Jim Ocheltree of Dysart, Iowa; his grandchildren & their spouses, Jennifer & Wade Lamont, Sara & Doug Rothgeb, Erin & Troy Verbeckmoes, Jill McFate, David McFate, Dan Ocheltree & Tom Ocheltree; his great-grandchildren, Dane, Luke & Olivia Lamont and Zachary Verbeckmoes; his sisters & brother-in-law, Norma DeCock of Eldridge and Joanne & Rod Mooney of Bettendorf; and many dear friends.
Ralph was preceded in death by four sisters.
