Raymond L. Denekas, 82, of Davenport, Iowa, died Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the Rock Island National Cemetery.  Those wishing to attend the services should meet at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral home in Bettendorf by 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Ray was born November 6, 1930 in Davenport, the son of John & Francis (Boehm) Denekas.  He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1954.

Ray was united in marriage to Janice M. Hofeldt on September 9, 1967 in Davenport.

He was retired from Oscar Meyer in Davenport after 46 years of employment.  Ray was also retired as a Conservation Officer with West Lake Park in Davenport after 19 years.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Davenport and had also enjoyed bowling in earlier years.  He also enjoyed camping and fishing on Colorado trips with his family.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife of forty-five years, Jan; his son, Matthew Denekas; his daughters, Rebecca Hart and Chris Denekas, all of Davenport; his grandchildren, Cheyenne (Jevon) LeBlanc, Brandy and Cody Ray Denekas, Braedon, Raena, Hunter and Phoenix Hart and Thomas Denekas; his great-grandchildren, Jay Denekas and Makenzie and Colt LeBlanc; his sister, Amelia Denekas of Louisa County, Iowa; and his brother, Emil (Ruth) Denekas of Davenport.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Raymond; his sister, Lillie; and his brothers, John Bill and Carl.
