Raymond A. Joens, 85, a resident of LeClaire, died Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Manor Care Nursing Center, Locust Street, in Davenport.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church in LeClaire. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services on Wednesday. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire. Memorials may be made to the LeClaire Civic Center, Camp Wyoming, or First Presbyterian Church of LeClaire.

Born on May 31, 1932 in Davenport, Ray was the son of August and Dorthea (Staabe) Joens. Ray served his country in the United States Army from 1953 – 1955. On April 6, 1957 in LeClaire, Ray married Harriet Fertig. She preceded him in death on October 2, 2015.

Ray worked in mold maintenance for Lamson & Sessions in Clinton. Ray and Harriet were members of First Presbyterian Church in LeClaire. He was a 50-year member of the Boy Scouts of America, past member of Camp Wyoming in Wyoming, Iowa, past board member of the Buffalo Bill Museum and LeClaire Civic Center, and a member of the Buffalo Bill American Legion in LeClaire. Ray loved reading.

Those left to honor his memory include his son, Bruce Alan (Lori) Joens of Clinton, Iowa; daughter, Joyce Elaine Joens of Davenport; two grandchildren, Andrea Jean (Adam) Reuter of Preston, Iowa and Adam Michael (Katherine) Joens of Savanna, Illinois; four great-grandchildren, Blake Alan and William Edward Reuter and Gemma Elaine and Nora Louise Joens.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alvin Joens; and sister, Doris Larson.
