Raymond C. Hildebrand, 85, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Friday, January 6, 2006 at Davenport Lutheran Home, Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday evening at the church. Burial with military honors conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 9128 of Bettendorf will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born September 13, 1920 in Lockridge, Iowa, the son of Louis & Fanny (Hugus) Hildebrand. On November 4, 1950, he was united in marriage to Ethel Criswell in Fairfield, Iowa.
During World War II, he served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1945.
Ray was retired as an inspector from John Deere and Company in 1982. He had also been employed part-time in earlier years at Lovell’s Service Station in Pleasant Valley and enjoyed the company of the people he knew there.
He was a member, Past-Commander and All-State Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9128 of Bettendorf. In addition, he served as a Scout Master at Pleasant View Schools. Ray joined Our Savior Lutheran Church in May of 1952 and continued to be an active member.
Among the things he enjoyed were fishing, hunting, camping, and dancing. He was also an all around handyman and enjoyed gardening.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Ethel; his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy & Gary Scott, of Silvis, Illinois; his son, Edwin Hildebrand and his wife, Bonnie, of Davenport, and his son Thomas Hildebrand, of Bettendorf; five grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; his sisters, Frances Petty, of Missouri, and Blanche Cochran, of Hedrick, Iowa
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mae; and his son, David.
