Raymond H. Kuehl, 89, a resident of Buffalo, Iowa died on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at his residence following an extended illness.
Memorial services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, December 8, 2008 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf, Iowa. He has been cremated and he will be interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Buffalo following the service. Memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church of Buffalo or the Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Kuehl was born in Davenport, Iowa on April 1, 1919 to Walter & Vernetta (Wrage) Kuehl. He married Betty L. Lake in 1942 and they divorced in 1984. He married Helen Bostrom in 1989 and she passed away in 2002.
He was employed at Bausch & Lomb Optical Company of Davenport for 27 years. He also was employed at Budd Optical Company and retired from Cole National Optical Company in 1986 after a 48-year career as an optician.
Raymond served in the Optical Unit in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He has been a resident of Buffalo since 1948 and until the past few years, has done most of his own housework, carpenter jobs, auto repairs and flower planting. He was a member of A.A.R.P. and a former member of the American Legion. He was a World War II buff, enjoyed old movies ant traveling with his wife, Helen.
His hobbies and interests included carpentry, gardening and his faithful pals, “Shadow,” “Squeaky,” and “Freckles.” He looked forward to family dinners, family picnics, and Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.
We will truly miss him at these occasions and taking him to Wal-Mart for shopping in a scooter.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Carol & Kenny Bernauer of Buffalo, Karen & Jim Bernauer of Buffalo, Dennis & Lora Kuehl of Davenport and Debbie & Jim Wilson of Buffalo; his grandchildren, Shari Nissen, Joseph Bernauer, Melissa Bernauer, Jennifer Carlson, Kevin Bernauer, Timothy Kuehl, Tina Bennett and Joshua Hernandez; eleven great-grandchildren; and his sister, Mildred Busko of Davenport.
His grandsons, Danny Ray Bernauer and Richard N. Nissen; his parents, Walter & Vernetta Kuehl, his stepfather, Edward Dusenberry, his wives, Betty Chester and Helen Kuehl; his sisters, Bernice Chapman, Norma Anderson and Dorothy Rice; and his brothers, Lester Kuehl and Walter Kuehl, preceded Raymond in death.
