Memorial services for Richard Lee Harper, 84, of Bettendorf, Iowa, will be 11:00 am on Friday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.. Inurnment will take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island at a later date. Family will meet friends on Friday from 10:00 am to service time at the funeral home.
Richard passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at his home in Bettendorf, Iowa. He was born on August 31, 1938, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Frances and Marjorie (McKnight) Harper. He graduated from Rock Island High School and attended Georgia Tech where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management. He worked as Plant Manager for Brach’s Candy, Davenport and then worked in the Public Relations Dept at Nancy’s Pie’s Rock Island, Illinois. He was married to Beverly Joan Wildermuth for 62 years.
He was a former member of the First Christian Church, Moline, and a member of First Baptist Church, Bettendorf, Iowa where he attended bible study and church. He enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, eating lunch with church friends and lovingly taking care of his beloved wife and pet. He was involved in the ‘Walk to Emmaus”.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Bettendorf; daughter, Cynthia Joan Harper and son, Richard Lee Harper II both of California, and brother-in-law, Ronald Wildermuth.
He was preceded in death by his father in World War II, his mother and brother, Robert Harper.
Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church, Bettendorf, Iowa.
