Richard L. Kurtz, 78, a former resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at the Southeast Iowa Behavioral Healthcare Center in Keokuk, Iowa following a long illness.
Services will be private. Memorials may be made to the family. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born in Davenport, Iowa on August 16, 1941, the son of Cody and Ada (Hausch) Kurtz and was retired from the Rock Island Arsenal where he worked as a Quality Inspector.
Richard and his future wife, Helen (who resided in Australia) had an online friendship for several years. He eventually made a trip to Australia where they met in person and some time later, returned to United States where they were married in Bettendorf on August 16, 2008.
His former memberships included the Hamilton Masonic Lodge #664 of Bettendorf where he was a devoted member and past-master and the Kaaba Shrine of Davenport.
Among the things he enjoyed were reading, drawing and the Green Bay Packers.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Helen; his step-son, Brendan Bishop of Bettendorf; and his cousin, Janet Riedesel of Bettendorf and her daughters, Ronda and Sheila.
His parents preceded him in death.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff and caregivers of the Healthcare Center in Keokuk for their compassionate and loving care shown to Richard during the time he resided there.
