Richard Willett

Richard L. “Dick” Willett, 81, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Monday, March 23, 2015 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport, Iowa.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2015 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. A Masonic service will be held at 11:15 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Born on January 6, 1934 in Alpha, Illinois, Dick was the son of Harold and Bessie (Chesley) Willett. He married Verna Norton on July 11, 1954 in Aledo, Illinois.

Dick was a sales representative for several years and owned R.L.W. Distributing until he retired in 2005. He was a 3 ^rd Degree Mason and a member of the Blue Lodge #37 in Davenport.  He was also an active member of the Shriners. As a Shriner, he was staff director, unit president, van member, Hospital Dad’s member and a member of several Shriner Clubs in Eastern Iowa. Dick enjoyed golfing, card games; an avid NASCAR fan and in his later years, enjoyed watching his grandson play baseball. Dick cherished his time spent with family, especially his grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Verna; daughters, Cindy Poppens of Bettendorf, Iowa and Sandy Meier of Davenport, Iowa; grandchildren, Jason Meier and Laurie Poppens; and brothers, LeRoy (Donna) Willett of Woodhull, Illinois and Dale Willett of Sun City, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters.
