Richard C. Beckmann, 87, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Sunday, May 1, 2005 at the Bettendorf Healthcare Center.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Bettendorf for the expansion of the Beloit Children’s Home in Ames, Iowa.
Richard was born April 4, 1918 in Davenport, the son of Albert & Emma (Fock) Beckmann. He was united in marriage to Dorothy B. Costello on April 30, 1948 in Clinton, Iowa.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 84th Infantry Division in Ardennes, Rhineland & central Europe. Upon his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1945, he received the Bronze Star, the American Campaign Medal, the European African Middle-Eastern Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Battle Stars, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Richard was employed as a sales representative for the Republic Electric Company in Davenport for several years. In earlier years, he was a Boy Scout Troopmaster.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Dorothy; his son and daughter-in-law, Dan & Joyce Beckmann of LeClaire, Iowa; his grandson, Bradley Beckmann of Jacksonville, Florida; his great-granddaughter, Ashli Beckmann of Jacksonville; his sisters, Marilyn Lease and her husband, Richard of Bettendorf and Lois Bolster of Davenport; his brother, Clifford Beckmann of Bettendorf; and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Lauretta and Allison; and his brothers, Herman and Lou.
