Richard C. “Dick” Vaught, 73, a resident of Eldridge, Iowa died on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport, Iowa.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge where he was a member. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, the Eldridge Volunteer Fire Department or the American Heart Association. Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born May 27, 1932 in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Claude B. & Mamie (Nelson) Vaught and was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
In 1954, he was united in marriage to Nancy C. Thompson in Clinton, Iowa. He was later united in marriage to Judith A. (Hamann) Storjohann in Davenport. She preceded him in death on February 7, 2003.
Dick was employed as a lineman with the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring in the mid-80’s after 30 years of service.
In addition to the church, he was a member of the Davenport Moose and a former member of the Eldridge Lions Club.
In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, the out-of-doors and spending time with his beloved family. He was also an avid collector of Dept. 56 New England Village pieces.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Monica Freeborn of Davenport and Jennifer (David Massingill) Vaught of Wilton, Iowa; his sons, Brian (Heather Dutton) Vaught and Brad (Jan) Vaught, all of Davenport; his step-daughters, Kelly (Tom) Schneckloth and Kimberly (Scott) Haycraft, all of Eldridge; his step-son, Reed (Shauna Coussens) Storjohann of Eldridge; his grandchildren, Krista, Kelly, John Jr., Jessica, Matthew, Shannon, Nicki, Derek, Olivia, Dustin, Ryan, Tony, Stephanie & Briana; his great-grandchildren, Christian, Laycoln, Logan & Ali; his brother, John (Bonny) Vaught of Hadley, Massachusetts; his mother-in-law, Helen Hamann of Eldridge; and his brother-in-law, Jim (Sally) Hamann of Eldridge.
In addition to his wife, Judy, he was preceded in death by his parents; and by his faithful companion, “Barney.”
