Richard H. “Dick” Tappendorf, 66, a resident of Pleasant Valley, Iowa died on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at his home.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Veteran’s Administration.
He was born October 4, 1943 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Harold & Marie (Cahail) Tappendorf. On February 27, 1962, he was united in marriage to Eleanor Stenerson in Davenport. She preceded him in death. On November 21, 1981, he was united in marriage to Shirley J. Moore in Davenport. She preceded him in death on September 21, 2003.
Dick was employed as a purchasing agent for Adel Wholesaler’s of Bettendorf retiring in 2005 after 33 years of faithful service.
He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Viet Nam Conflict and was honorably discharged as a Specialist 5th Class in 1965.
Dick loved his home on the river and enjoyed fishing, boating & hunting.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Cindy (Larry) Higgs of Rockford, Illinois; his son, Richard Tappendorf of Rockford, Illinois; his grandchildren, Christopher Butler and Nicole Remmers; his great-grandson, Jacob Remmers; his step-daughter, Kathy Brown of Davenport; his step-sons, Lonnie Sedam of Davenport and Tim Sedam of Fairfield, California; his sister, Dottie (Mike) Gallagher of Davenport; and his special friend & companion, Fran Devlin.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog, “Toby.”
