Richard L. (Ricky) Simms, 51, of Durant, Iowa, passed away on Sunday August 2, 2008 at his residence.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 5:00 P.M., Thursday, August 21, 2008 at The Colorado Academy in Lakewood, Colorado. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Ricky was born May 19, 1957 in Denver, Colorado, the son of Robert & Patricia (Montford) Simms. He spent his school days at the Colorado Academy where his father was the athletic director. In his youth he spent countless hours training horses and working at the Gloraroma Stables in Colorado. He also played ice hockey in a semi-pro league, the Elks. Ricky had also attended Colorado State University for a period of time studying Veterinary Medicine.
Ricky moved to Iowa in 1991 with his family and worked doing historic restoration and remodeling with Renaissance Restoration of Davenport. He was instrumental in restoring such projects as Palmer Chiropractic College, the German-American Heritage Center and the LeClaire house. Rick loved spending time with his kids, supporting his daughter and son in their various sporting activities, fishing, and was a master carpenter. He was an avid Bronco fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR races with his friends. Ricky had a great sense of humor and could tell a joke like no other.
Those left to honor his memory include his parents, Robert & Patricia Simms of Littleton, Colorado; his children, Hannah Lee, 21 and Murphy Louis, 16; their mother, Mary Ann Simms, of Stockton, Iowa; and a sister, Robin Moore, of Bozeman, Montana.
