Richard L. “Dick” Dorr, 63, a resident of Bettendorf passed away peacefully Monday, June 29, 2009 at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, July 3, 2009 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Richard Dorr Memorial Fund.
Richard was born March 27, 1946 in Waterloo, Iowa the son of Wilbur “Bill” and Marie (Schares) Dorr. He grew up in Guttenberg, Iowa and Dubuque, Iowa where he graduated from Wahlert High School in 1964 and Loras College in 1968.
He worked at Eagle Foods for more than forty years starting at age sixteen in Dubuque. After college he was a store manager in several locations in Wisconsin and then became a food buyer at Eagle Foods Headquarters in Milan, Illinois for twenty eight years. He was currently working at Group O Inc, Milan prior to his illness.
He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church’s men’s fellowship for several years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially being involved with the activities of his children and grandchildren over the years. He was also an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
He was a devoted and loving son, brother, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Pamela (Shawn) Samuelson, Davenport, Stephanie (Jon) Alto, Jarrell, Texas and Jill (Jackson) Frerichs, Bettendorf; his sons Marc (Nicole) Dorr, Eldridge, Iowa and Michael Dorr, Bettendorf; his grandchildren, Colin Samuelson, Cael Samuelson, Carter Dorr and Chloe Dorr; his mother, Marie Dorr, Dubuque; his special friend, Vickie Benac, Rock Island, Illinois, his brothers, Dennis (Helen) Dorr, Davenport and Daryle Dorr, Dubuque and his nephew, Kevin Dorr, Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his father.
