Robert Charles Benson, Jr. 80, a resident of Bettendorf, died Friday, March 14, 2014 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2014 at Rock Island National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should meet at 9:00 a.m. on Monday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.
Born on February 2, 1934 in Rock Island, Bob was the son of Robert Charles Sr. and Evelyn Ann (Welch) Benson.
Bob served his country in the United Sates Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict from 1952 – 1955.
Bob worked for Swan Engineering in Bettendorf as a tool and dye maker.
He enjoyed golfing, hunting and sports and was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Those left to honor his memory include his children, LouAnn (Russell) Barden of Downey, CA, Larry (Lia) Benson of Hacienda Heights, CA and Sam (Denise) Benson of Temecula, CA; five grandchildren, Samantha, Kate, Cindy, Tiffany and Sheena; five great-grandchildren, Bronson, Rowdy, Rachel, Kayla and Jayden; one great-great grandchild, Scarlett.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
