Robert Edward Carter, 82, a resident of Princeton, Iowa died at his home on Sunday, November 13, 2011.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the Princeton Presbyterian Church where he was a member. He will be laid to rest at McCausland Cemetery, McCausland, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to the family for contributions to the family’s favorite charities.
He was born in Davenport, Iowa on November 6, 1929, the son of Charles L. & Mildred (Cousins) Carter and was a graduate of Clinton (Iowa) High School. He was united in marriage to Verla Sage and later to Betty Dies.
Bob spent his life doing what he loved; farming and raising cattle in rural Princeton. He was a former member of the Princeton Volunteer Fire Department, a former member of the North Scott School Board and served on the Scott County Sheriff’s Posse from 1967 to 1982.
Every spring, Bob looked forward to tapping his maple trees to make maple syrup for his family and friends. He loved traveling, riding his gator around the farm and most of all, spending time with his beloved children & grandchildren.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons, Scott (Connie) Carter, Brian (Donna) Carter and Tim (Kellie) Carter, all of Princeton; his grandchildren, Tavis (Christine) Kilian, Celene (Rey) Vidaurri, Kierra (Seth) Henderson, Evan Kilian, Clayton Kilian, Ryan Carter, Eric (Callie) Carter, Adam Carter, Jacob Carter, Shane (Hanna) Carter, Chris Carter & his fiancé, Katie Conrad, Angie Carter, Sarah Carter, Tyler Carter, Khristie (Tom) Runge, Victoria Carter and Morgan Carter; his great-grandchildren, Gage Carter, Breanne Carter, Adam Carter, T.J. Kilian, Addie Kilian, Braden Carter, Carter Runge; many step-children and step-grandchildren; his sister, Jane Buffo of Knoxville, Iowa; his brother, Lawrence Carter of Princeton; his daughter-in-law, Geri Carter of Davenport; his very special friend, Carol Ann Klemme of Long Grove, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Deena Kilian; his son Kevin Carter, and his sister, Georgia Schmidt.
