Robert L. Deere, 92, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa peacefully passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at his home surrounded by his beloved family.
Private family services will be held at Davenport Memorial Park. There will be no visitation. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born November 22, 1919 in Farmington, Iowa, the son of Robert Lawrence & Edith Hannah (Johnson) Deere. On August 30, 1943, he was united in marriage to Mary L. White in Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death on February 28, 2001.
Bob was employed as a sales representative for Armour & Company of Davenport for 37 years. Following his retirement, he continued to work for Koenig’s Meat Market of Davenport as a salesman to local food stores and restaurants.
He was an avid hunter and enjoyed watching sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons, Jon (Connie) Deere of Excelsior Springs, Missouri and Dennis (Barry Martin) Deere of Bettendorf; his grandchildren, Rick, Michelle, Clarice, Rebecca, Matthew & Chris; his great-grandchildren, Amber, Joshua, Joel, Olivia & Allison; his sisters-in-law, Netha Deere of Bettendorf, Jean Deere of Bettendorf and Ruth Sprague of Buffalo, Iowa; and numerous nieces & nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack Deere and Gene Deere.
