Robert Gill, Sr.

Robert E. “Bob” Gill, Sr., 75, of LeClaire, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, April 15, 2013 at his home.
A Christian Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the family.
Born on May 18, 1937 in Davenport he was the son of Richard Gill and Marguerite O’Brien Gill Hayes. On June 16, 1956 he married Rose Ann Garcia.
Bob worked in construction for Labor Union 309 in Rock Island for many years.  He was a member of Our Lady of the River Catholic Church in LeClaire. He enjoyed working on transmissions and drinking beer with his brothers and friends in his garage. Bob cherished time spent with his grandkids, giving them rides on his tractor and trike.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Rose of LeClaire; two daughters, Catherine Wilkerson of LeClaire and Jennifer (Tom) Brandt of Bettendorf; three sons, Robert (Tammie) Gill, Jr. of Bettendorf, James Gill of LeClaire and Joseph Gill of Davenport; 14 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild; three sisters, Sandra (Don) Collier of LeClaire, Judy (Larry) Harris of Davenport, Peggy (Jerry) Huckeba of Palestine, TX; three brothers, Ronald (Shirley) Gill of Bettendorf, Michael (Victoria) Gill of Henderson, NV and Dennis Gill of Bettendorf.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Jewel; and brothers, Richard, Ted, Gerald and Ernest Gill.
