Bob was born January 18, 1945, in Waterloo, Iowa, to John and Almeda Glenn. He grew up in Littleton, Iowa and graduated high school in Jesup, Iowa. Bob went to The University of Dubuque to wrestle and play football. Bob was inducted into The University of Dubuque Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.
At the University of Dubuque, Bob met and then married Judith D. Greer on July 22, 1967. Bob and Judy moved to Bettendorf after graduating. Bob was a dedicated P.E. teacher and coach for 34 years at Bettendorf Middle School. The relationships he formed with his co-workers, students and community were very significant to him. After retirement, Bob served for several years as a member of the Bettendorf Park Board.
Bob enjoyed football, wrestling, fishing, being outdoors, and having a good time. His many neighbors and friends knew he would always be there for them. Bob and Judy are long time members of Asbury United Methodist Church. Bob’s family was his top priority. Providing a good life for them was his mission. He and Judy enjoyed a wonderful marriage for over 57 years. His children were an important part of his life, only slightly less important than his six beloved grandchildren.
Bob will be missed by his wife, Judy of Bettendorf; daughters, Susan (Jon) Horvath of Romeoville, Illinois, Julie Wilkinson of Bettendorf and son, Tom (Katie) Glenn of Bettendorf. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Tyler and Addison Horvath, Dan and Ben Wilkinson, and Jack and Olivia Glenn. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Julia Butters and Kathy Luloff.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be directed to a memorial fund in Bob’s name for Bettendorf Middle School student athletes. Any other memorial gifts may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the charity of your choice.
