Robert J. Hawkins, 75, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa, died peacefully on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 A.M., Monday, November 15, 2010 at St. Patrick’s Church in Delmar, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. A Christian Wake Service will be recited at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Delmar. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Bettendorf.
Robert was born January 31, 1935 in Norton, Virginia, the son of Wesley & Edith (Fleenor) Hawkins. He was united in marriage to Madonna V. Cook on September 21, 1957 at St. Patrick’s Church in Delmar.
Bob was a graduate of the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport and practiced chiropractic medicine for two years. He also served in the United States Army for two years before he was honorably discharged.
Bob retired in 1993 from Navistar International where he had been employed for over thirty years, and he briefly was employed in Indianapolis. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
He enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, camping, watching the Chicago Cubs and following the Indy 500. Bob also enjoyed the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and he enjoyed vacationing in Sanabel Island, Florida.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife of fifty-three years, Madonna; his daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia & Roger Tuftee of Davenport, Sandra & Steve Ferguson of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Virginia & Kortney Kotz of Mechanicsville, Iowa and Katherine & Kevin Cary of Bettendorf; his sons and daughter-in-law, David & Rhonda Hawkins of New Liberty, Iowa and Robert & Rebecca Hawkins of Knoxville, Tennessee; his grandchildren, Eric and Ethan Tuftee, Mackenzie and Skyler Ferguson, Kaylee and Clarissa Kotz and Taylor, Brock and Drake Cary; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles & Bernice Hawkins of Bristol, Virginia and Daniel & Sharon Hawkins of Kinsgport, Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Dorothy Mullins and Kay Hawkins; and his brother, Harold Hawkins.
