Robert L. Long, 83, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa died on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Manor Care Utica Ridge in Davenport, Iowa.

His funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church of LeClaire. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday, November 19, 2010 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf and from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of the River Catholic Church.

He was born April 29, 1927 in LeClaire, the son of Emery & Stella (Coffin) Long. On June 18, 1949, he was united in marriage to Joyce D. Wilms in Moline, Illinois.

Bob was employed as a Packaging Planner at the Rock Island Arsenal and retired after 34 years of faithful service.

During World War II, he served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1946.

His memberships included the Buffalo Bill American Legion Post #347 of LeClaire where he was a life-member and Our Lady of the River Catholic Church. In earlier years, Bob was very active in Junior Achievement.

In his spare time, he enjoyed camping trips with his family, playing golf with his friends and woodworking in his shop at home.

Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Joyce; his daughter & son-in-law, Linda & William Meeker of LeClaire; his grandchildren, Todd and Kristy; his great-grandchildren, Nathan, Shelby, Michael & Paula; his great-great-grandson, Brandon; and his brothers, James Long of Moline, Illinois and Fred Long of Omaha, Nebraska.

Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Melody Tolley and his brother, William “Duke” Long.
