On Tuesday, January 5, 2016 we said goodbye to Robert E. Rapsilber, of Davenport, Iowa. Bob was the son of Oscar and Esther Rapsilber, born in Galesburg, Illinois on August 23, 1930.
He met the love of his life, Margaret on a blind date through a friend. They married on April 14, 1956. Bob had a long and wonderful life, starting as a graduate of the University of Illinois. He used his financial talents at Modern Woodmen of America in Rock Island, Illinois as an investment analyst. He and his wife, Margaret of 59 years, became successful entrepreneurs at Dunkin Donuts and the Ice Creamery in Rock Island followed by the elegant French restaurant, Christies, in the Village of East Davenport. He brought his talents of finance and organization to each business venture.
Bob was an army veteran of the Korean conflict and was a proud member of the Rotary Club. He enjoyed challenges from word searches and puzzles. His smile and graciousness will be missed, but never forgotten. He was generous with his time, patience and love. He made a most generous gift for others, donating his body to the University of Iowa to help doctors learn more ways to help the rest of us.
Among those honoring his memory are his wife, Margaret; his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Barry Smiley of Davenport; his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Robin of Moline, Illinois; his grandsons, Caleb, Matt, and Tim; and his sister-in-law Beverly Usher and her husband, Linc, of Delmar, Iowa.
