Robert Richardson

Robert W. Richardson, 85, a resident of Bettendorf, died Tuesday, December 03, 2013 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2013 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Friday. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Bettendorf.

Born on January 4, 1928 in Pulaski, TN, Robert was the son of Lester L. and Sara E. (Thurman) Richardson. On January 19, 1957 in Cincinnati, OH, he married Patricia Finan.

Robert was a veteran of World War II serving as part of the Eighth Army occupational forces in Japan. After graduation from business college in Nashville, TN, he was employed by Navistar International (formerly International Harvester). He spent the last 20 years of his employment as a corporate internal auditor retiring in January 1987. He continued to work for the company on a part time basis until April 1990.

Robert was an ordained deacon and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bettendorf, serving in many positions over the years including teaching various Sunday school classes. He enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling especially with senior groups on tours. He was an avid fan of the University of Iowa sports teams.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Patricia; daughters, Kathleen (Richard) Vineyard of Oxford, MI and Sheila Tecson of Rochester Hills, MI; son, Steven (Trish) Richardson of Mt. Pleasant, SC; six grandchildren, Jenna Vineyard, Zachary and Sophia Tecson, Caitlyn, Nick and Kelli Richardson; one sister, Dorothy Lee of Cornersville, TN; one brother, Carl Richardson of Nashville, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Mabel Rich, Mayme Cavnar, Mary Chapman, and Helen Buchholz.
