Robert E. Estes, Sr., 68, of Davenport, died Friday, June 26, 2009 at Manor Care Health Services in Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors conducted by the Moline American Legion Post 246 will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
Bob was born September 16, 1940 in Trenton, Missouri, the son of Charlie & Elizabeth Amanda (Wooderson) Estes. He entered the Unites States Marine Corps in April of 1962 and was honorably discharged in April of 1965. On December 6, 1980 Bob was united in marriage to Betty L. Kingery in Buffalo, Iowa.
Bob had been employed with the former Quad-City Times-Democrat and then for the former Red Jacket Manufacturing Company in Davenport for 29 years. He retired in 2002.
His memberships included the Order of Knights of Pythias and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Raymond V. Egel Post 6078 of Buffalo. Bob enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, trap shooting and model railroading.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Betty; his daughters, Deanna Marie Graham of Henderson, Nevada and Jennifer (Dwight) DeWitt of Summerville, South Carolina; his son, Robert E. Estes, Jr. of Davenport; eight grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; his sisters, Carol (Dick) Abbott of Buffalo, Freida (Terry) Foland of Astoria, Illinois and Charlene Hoffenberger of Davenport; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, W.H.; and his sister, Marilyn Jackson.
