Robert M. Orcutt, 87, a resident of Eldridge, Iowa died Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport, Iowa.
A celebration of life visitation in Robert’s memory will be held from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the Titus Funeral Home in Warsaw, Indiana. A graveside service will be held at the Harrison Center Cemetery, Etna Green, Indiana following the visitation. As per his wishes cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Honor Flight, 4130 Northwest Blvd. Davenport, IA 52806. Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge is assisting the family with arrangements.
Robert was born May 3, 1921 in Warsaw, Indiana the son of Charles Wesley and Ethel (Bemis) Orcutt. He was united in marriage to Betty Jane Shaw on August 30, 1941 in Warsaw, Indiana. She preceded him in death in 2000.
Robert enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 and served as a tank driver in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.
After the service he was a co-owner of a construction company called Reliable Builders. In the slower construction times he and his employees built fiberglass boats. He also worked as an engineer for a company making portable bank machines, he was the county building inspector in Kosciusko County, Indiana, he delivered vans for Explorer Conversion Vans, worked in a steel mill and drove a semi delivering eggs.
He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening, working out doors, building houses, playing cards and going out to breakfast with his son Lynn.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons, Lynn (Joyce) Orcutt of Eldridge and Jerry (Rosemary) Orcutt of Brisbane, Australia; his 8 grandchildren; his 11 great-grandchildren; his sisters Genevieve Drukamiller of Florida and Betty Wilson of Wyoming and his brother, Albert Orcutt of Indiana.
Along with his wife he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Jervis.
